What is Bulging Disc Syndrome?
Bulging disc syndrome refers to a problem with one of the rubbery cushions (disks) that sit between the individual bones (vertebrae) that stack to make your spine. It can occur in any part of the spine, can irritate a nearby nerve. Depending on where the herniated disk is, it can result in pain, numbness, or weakness in an arm or leg.
What Causes Bulging Disc Syndrome?
It most commonly occurs in the lower back, lumbar spine, and neck. Wear and tear or changes to your spine typically cause this narrowing of spaces in your spine.
Symptoms can vary, depending on which part of your spine spinal stenosis affects. They often include:
- Numbness or tingling in a hand, arm, foot, or leg
- Weakness in a hand, arm, foot, or leg
- Trouble walking
- Neck pain
- Back pain
